Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia!

Slated for a release date of July 18, 2008, Mama Mia is an upcoming film adaptation of the West End musical of the same name based on the songs of pop group ABBA.

Mamma Mia! makes use of ABBA songs to tell the story of Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried), a young girl who hopes to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding to Sky (Dominic Cooper), she brings three men, Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Bill Austin (Stellan Skarsgård) and Harry Bright (Colin Firth), from her mother Donna’s (Meryl Streep) past back to the Greek island they visited over two decades ago.

Personally I really don’t like musicals in film form…. It’s a wee bit too much for me and seems to lead to painful movies like High School Musical and Grease. Yes, Grease… as cute as John Travolta was and arguably still is… I’ve always been annoyed by it! I’ll give this one a pass because its ABBA based, I’m not a HUGE ABBA fan either and I honestly tend to listen to covers, mixes and Erasure’s Abba-esque album but there’s no denying they were pretty damn good.

From Dancing Queens to my favorites like Take A Chance On Me, Voulez-Vous and Lay All Your Love On Me, it’s sure to be pretty good in my opinion. I’ll definitely be catching this one.
