<![endif]-->Wanted is an exciting romp around Chicago with James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie. The film is loosely based on a comic book series and tells the story of a young man, Wesley Gibson (McAvoy), who hates his boring and uneventful life as an account manager. McAvoy shows how talented he is by hiding his Scottish accent with ease and getting the audience on his side early in the film. But with a miserable existence, a horrible job, and a best friend who’s canoodling with his girlfriend, one could guess it wasn’t that hard. His life, like many men’s before him, is turned upside down when Fox (Jolie) steps in. Jolie gets the chance to really showcase her talent in this film, her role is like that from Mr. & Mrs. Smith, just turned up a few hundred notches. The action in the film is crazy, actually it’s insane, but it makes for a damn good ride. The top notch acting doesn’t hurt either.

While every Out In McAllen reader may not be into all the adrenaline and violence, I’m sure we all enjoy Jolie. Most will also enjoy McAvoy, who looks like a million bucks throughout the whole film and even takes his shirt off and shows us what he’s made of. The mixture of the great acting, intense action, hot bods, and Jolie’s lips still rock.

We all know a major drama queen and dating one just isn’t fun. Lets define what a drama queen actually is; Jaime at urban dictionary says:

Someone who turns something unimportant into a major deal. Someone who blows things way out of proportion when ever the chance is given.

“Oh my god! You copied that without giving the other person credit! That is just mean. You’re horrible, don’t talk to me. Im gonna go tell everyone what a cruel person you are just so they will pay attention to me and think im cool.”

Now with that set, what are the top 10 signs you’re dating a drama queen.

10.) They like to watch, drama.

“Reality” television shows like The Hills have made history by pulling in millions of viewers when they broadcast, drama. The beautiful people on the amazingly popular show have made a living off of sharing their personal beefs with the world, so if your man likes to watch drama, there’s a good chance he likes to start it.

9.) Excessively proud of one’s own appearance, qualities, etc.

People who are vain are usually all wrapped up in themselves and could care less about others, even their boyfriends. This pretty much always means drama if the focus isn’t on them at all times, like when you don’t answer the phone after the first ring. If your man’s number boy is himself and not you, it’s time to drop him and move on.

8.) This should’ve been a lot easier…

Is what you’ll be saying because your drama queen likes to make situations difficult. So you two go to a party and you see your ex…what’s a man to do? You suggest to leave but your current squeeze has to make a scene. If this is the case with your man, then he likes the spotlight and he wants to feel bigger and better than the bitch that came before him. Maybe you should give your ex a call?

7.) Rumor has it…

Ah, rumors, those things never end well unless you’re the evil bitch who started the thing. If you notice that your boy likes to talk about his friends behind their backs and spread dirt about them, steer clear or you could be next.

6.) You = Crap.

You know those relationships where one person is totally dominant over the other and they treat them horribly? Is that couple you’re thinking about you and your boyfriend? Dramatic queens always like to treat their boys like crap to make themselves look like the dominant one in the relationship. If you’re getting put down in front of friends, blown off, etc. then it’s time to find someone who knows your worth.

5.) You’re the best friend’s ex.

Okay, this one is in large part –your fault. You should be shame…and so should your boy. If your guy can pick up his best friend’s ex-flame with ease then you should stay far away from this man. He’s a backstabber and doesn’t know the true meaning of friendship, which is key to a strong relationship. Meanwhile all this causes more drama and the drama queen goes ON and ON.

4.) pAArty!

The party scene these days is less about the party and all about the dramz. The large crowds, the sex, and the drunkenness, it’s the perfect platform for a drama queen to get some attention. So your man’s the one that’s screaming and yelling at an enemy and throwing drinks and starting fights? Where’s the exit?

3.) …the apple doesn’t fall too far.

So your boyfriend’s best buds are the ones who like to gossip, spread rumors, and be in the limelight 24/7? Well it’s only a matter of time before he starts to dress like them, talk like them, and ultimately, act like them. Remember Cady Heron from Mean Girls? Yeah, watch yourself.

2.) OMG!

Does your boy constantly complain about his life and he “dreams” of doing bigger and better things? He wants to live like they do in the movies so he complains about his current state and tries to make his life and its problems seem a lot bigger than they are. Well he’s being dramatic and you should dramatically, dump his ass before he brings you down with him.

1.) Makes Chris Crocker look sane…

The title says it all. If your man makes Chris Crocker seem like a sane, friendly person then you should make a b-line to the next guy in sight –Now.

NY Times Slams Obama For Being “New And Not Improved”

Here are a few lines of the story that’s gotten so much attention:

Senator Barack Obama stirred his legions of supporters, and raised our hopes, promising to change the old order of things. He spoke with passion about breaking out of the partisan mold of bickering and catering to special pleaders, promised to end President Bush’s abuses of power and subverting of the Constitution and disowned the big-money power brokers who have corrupted Washington politics.

Now there seems to be a new Barack Obama on the hustings. First, he broke his promise to try to keep both major parties within public-financing limits for the general election. His team explained that, saying he had a grass-roots-based model and that while he was forgoing public money, he also was eschewing gold-plated fund-raisers. These days he’s on a high-roller hunt.

There’s an interesting discussion about the gay community and George Bush with writer David Benkof saying gays should thank Bush for allot of what he has done. Here’s a snippet:

It is unquestionable that George W. Bush has done more to fight HIV/AIDS than any president in American history, including Clinton. The people pushing Bush to fight the epidemic at home and abroad are overwhelmingly conservative Christians — the same people we keep hearing gay leaders tar as narrow-minded and bigoted. Well, those narrow-minded bigots (who never had the president’s ear during the Clinton administration) deserve far more credit for relieving suffering from HIV in this decade than gay men and lesbians did in the previous two decades combined.

Benkof also stresses Bush’s financial commitment to fighting HIV/AIDS - $3 billion, the nation’s largest investment for fighting the disease globally - as well as his installation of two gays in high-level administrative positions on the issue.

Yazoo released “Upstairs At Eric’s” in July 1982 and with a partnership lasting only 16 months –Yazoo’s Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet split and went their own ways soon after the release of their second album “You And Me Both.”

Vince and Alison have since gone on to have their own successful careers. Vince formed Erasure with, and Alison as a solo performer. They both released Top 30 crit

ically acclaimed hit albums in 2007 - Erasure with “Light at the End of the World” and Alison Moyet with “The Turn.”

Now Vince and Alison will be performing in Dallas on July 22 which is a great opportunity for those of y’all who know Vince and Alison’s work.

One of Vince Clarke’s first remarks to getting back together with Alison was:

“”It’s been really good going back to these songs after such a long while. Many of them have never been played live. I’m looking forward to performing them with Alison for all the fans who’ve enjoyed our music through the years but never had a chance to see Yazoo in concert.””

So far I haven’t come across a single bad review from anybody anywhere. Here’s a news paper’s review of a Yazoo show:

“This is not a nostalgia tour. It is two musicians with unfinished business, reminding themselves (and the world) of the connection they made.

“It is as much about Clarke and Moyet as it is the music: when, for no reason, they embraced for a moment before a blistering, spellbinding Too Pieces, the crowd cheered, delighted. And throughout the set they shared our glee: Moyet skipping and grinning, Clarke trying, with less and less success, not to let the skull-mask slip into a smile.”
The Herald (Glasgow)

The performances will be in The Woodlands on the 21 and Dallas on the 22. I will not be attending either one, to my extreme dismay… (I’m a little ticked off by that.) In any case, its a great lineup, Cyndi Lauper alone is GREAT but her and Andy, plus Wanda Sykes… come on folks, it’ll be great, if you can catch either one you should really go for it.

9:20 - 9:35 Carson Kressley,
9:35 - 10:25 Cyndi Lauper

I stumbled onto this GREAT electro duo a few months ago and from the get-go I found myself visiting their myspace page every day or two to listen to their stuff.

Hits & Mrs. is an electronic band formed in 2006, originally from San Antonio, TX. The band, Kyle Keith (who is behind the keys, programming, and production of the project), and Joshua Summers (vocals and songwriting) have been friends since childhood, and have been playing music together in some form or fashion for most of their lives. They’re now working on new material, despite living 4,500 miles apart (Kyle in NC and Josh in Germany). Their debut EP has recently been released!
[from the official Hits & Mrs myspace]

I‘m not sure how I ended up on their page but from the second that first song started to play I couldn’t help but enjoy how clean and put together they sounded, most myspace bands just don’t cut it for me, Hits and Mrs really took me by surprise and with the release of their debut [beta] EP up for grabs on iTunes I’m sure Kyle and Joshua will be met with success and I wish them the best of luck.

They list their musical influences on they myspace page: Depeche Mode, Dave Gahan, Blaqk Audio, New Order, Deftones, Teamsleep, Jimmy Eat World, Billy Corgan, Anberlin, Stabbing Westward, the Cure, The Killers, Kevin Max, The Crystal Method, Imogen Heap, Paul Van Dyk, Heavens, Anything Box, Mute Math, Erasure, The Sounds, and Shiny Toy Guns… and if that list doesn’t make you want to listen, you’re lame!

I most likely picked them up on something Erasure related but yeah, just before I wrap this up, ‘Last Song’ has to be my favorite. So visit their myspace, take a listen , add them to your friends list, add their songs to your profile and support this great band.

Just a reminder, this site is only as good as WE make it. Sunday I wokeup to a nice comment, it was posted in the About section and says:

MaRyT May 25th, 2008 at 3:11 pm

so wats the daily update???

i have been checking out ur site for the past 3 consecutive days…and no changes have been made.

wat is the purpose for this site sir?

I couldn’t help but think, well, I wont say what I thought but I did write a lot which is at the bottom of this post too, but here’s the deal. I can only do so much with a side project like this, couple that with the fact that I do have a life like all of you and you’ll see I can’t keep on top of everything 24/7.

I’m not in it to sell ad’s (and don’t have single paid one up), I’m not trying to make a name for myself, I don’t work for a design firm, and I don’t design for a living. I’m just a college student trying to make something out of nothing.

I write, I design, I code, I sing in the shower -thought I’d toss that in. I’m a bit limited and the hardest part is getting ideas and figuring out what you, the visitor, wants to read/watch. I could easily go onto the big gay sites and jack some headlines but thats not what Out In McAllen is about.

Up until Out In McAllen launched the Rio Grande Valley Gay community really didn’t have a comprehensive site where everyone could voice their mind. Sites have come and gone but none were as user oriented as Out In McAllen is, comments can be posted anywhere, our awesome new social network is great and gives you the power to meet each other and talk about things that matter or just make some friends.

I can only do so much and I’m inviting you to join in and help make Out In McAllen a success and it can be as simple as commenting, joining out social network or just suggesting ideas.

- JR

Copy of My Response

Hey “MaRyT”, Thanks for the comment. Like stated above “features are added almost daily” not posts/articles, although TWO NEW POSTS went up yesterday there have been updates in the past three days.

Meanwhile, OutInMcAllen went live exactly 20 days ago and there have been 18 posts since then and the launch of a BRAND NEW SOCIAL NETWORK which got tons of updates as well.

Moreover, this site is my way of giving the local GBLT community a new way to get information and meet each other.

OutInMcAllen isn’t a big shot site run by a team of people or large organization trying to impress the world. Out In McAllen is trying to fill a local niche and so far things are going great.

So once again thanks for the comment, but I would have enjoyed some ideas along with the criticism.

- Jr

Pretty much anyone interested in art has attended at least one ArtWalk. For those of you who haven’t attended or even heard of McAllen’s ArtWalk it’s essentially a self-guided tour of art galleries in some of the oldest areas of McAllen.

You can take your time and look around and even meet allot of the artists. I’ve never meet anyone who has attended and not had a great time looking at all the cool shit on display. Nuevo Santander Gallery being the most mentioned.

(’Shit’ was probably an poor word choice)

But in all seriousness… the ArtWalk is great. The season just wrapped up but the ArtWalk will certainly be back this September as usual, and let’s face it at some point everything you can do in The Valley gets boring at some point so a little chillin’ time with art wouldn’t hurt and sure beats another crappy movie!

(or maybe I’m dull :-P)

The evening exhibits begin at 6 p.m. and last until 10 p.m., so even if you do lack some excitement you can still go out and visit someplace a little more fun if you need to.

The Valley is growing and growing and I personally enjoy seeing the Art community expanding with this phenomenal growth. Everyone who visits from out of town seems to comment about the ArtWalk and how they didn’t expect something like this in The Valley, so once again… Get out there and enjoy it this coming season.
